Rebinding a shortcut

Some shortcuts can be changed and some cannot. Go to Settings, then Keyboard shortcuts. Editable shortcuts have an edit control beside them; fixed ones are labelled as fixed.

  1. Open Settings and choose Keyboard shortcuts.
  2. Click edit on the shortcut you want to change.
  3. Press the key combination you want. Skiml records it as you press it.
  4. Click Save shortcut.

If the combination is already taken, Skiml names the shortcut that is using it and asks you to pick another. Reset all to defaults puts everything back.

Three shortcuts are currently editable: open help and feedback, toggle the sidebar, and close the action brief panel. The rest are fixed, including all four triage keys, ?, the theme toggle, Cmd+K search, and Esc.

Extension shortcut

Opening the Skiml side panel from any web page uses Ctrl+Shift+S, or Command+Shift+S on a Mac. That one is a Chrome extension command rather than a Skiml setting, so you change it in Chrome at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Where shortcuts do not fire

Shortcuts are ignored while you are typing in a text field, so a ? in the search box searches for a question mark instead of opening the overlay.
