Using Skiml in your language

Skiml ships in ten languages, and your interface language and your brief language are two separate settings.

The ten languages

English, Dutch, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. English is the default and nothing changes unless you pick something else.

Changing the interface language

The public site has a globe menu you can use before you even sign in. Inside the app, go to Settings, then Preferences, and set App language. This controls the language Skiml's interface is displayed in.

The Chrome extension has its own language switcher in the side panel rail, marked with a globe. The extension and your account keep their language choice in sync.

Changing the brief language

Go to Settings, then Preferences, and set Brief language. By default this follows your app language, shown as "Same as app". Pick a specific language to override that.

New briefs are then written in that language whatever language the source was in. So you can save an article in Japanese and read the brief in Spanish.

The setting applies to briefs generated after you change it. Existing briefs stay in the language they were written in. If you want an old brief in your new language, open it and use Regenerate brief.

What is never translated

Your saved source content is stored and shown in its original language. Skiml does not translate the article, the transcript, or the email you saved. Only the generated brief is written in your chosen language.

That distinction is deliberate. The saved content is a record of what you actually read, and translating it would quietly change the thing you were keeping.

Dates and formatting

Dates and number formatting in the dashboard follow your interface language rather than being fixed to a single locale.

Legal documents

Skiml's legal documents are translated too, but the English version is the legally binding one. Each translation opens with a notice saying so. If you need the authoritative text, read the English version at /legal/privacy-policy or /legal/terms-of-service.
