Save your first page
Updated JUL 18, 2026
Open the Skiml side panel on any page, check what it extracted, and click Save & generate brief.
The steps
- Open the article, blog post, or doc you want to keep.
- Click the Skiml icon in your toolbar, or press
Ctrl+Shift+S(Command+Shift+Son a Mac). The side panel opens on the Skim tab. - Skiml reads the page and fills in the title, the Properties block, and the Source body.
- Edit anything that looks wrong. The title, source URL, author, published date, and description are all editable, and so is the extracted body text.
- Optionally add tags from the
tagsrow in Properties. - Click Save & generate brief.
The panel then shows the brief status and, once it finishes, the brief itself: Summary, Key insights, Action items, and Follow-ups. From there you can click Open in dashboard or Skim another page.
What Skiml can save
Beyond ordinary articles, Skiml handles YouTube videos, podcast episodes, X threads, and Loom and Zoom recordings by pulling a transcript where one is available. You can also upload a PDF from the dashboard. Saved items are grouped in the dashboard sidebar under Articles, PDFs, Videos, Tweets, Podcasts, and Emails.
Editing before you save
The side panel is deliberately an editor, not a one-shot button. If a page has a paywall, a cookie banner, or heavy navigation clutter, the extracted body may include junk or come up short. Fix it in the Source body box before saving, because the brief is generated from what you save, not from the live page.
If the body comes back empty, the panel tells you so. You can paste the text in yourself and save anyway.
Re-reading a page
If you open the panel before the page has finished loading, the extraction can be incomplete. Use the Re-read current page button in the side panel rail to extract again.
When it does not save
If Skiml cannot be reached, the panel marks the clip as Saved offline and queues it. The queued clip syncs automatically on your next successful save. If your session has expired instead, the panel tells you to sign in again from the Account tab.
