Search and export
Updated JUL 18, 2026
Press Cmd+K or Ctrl+K from anywhere in the dashboard to jump to search, then type.
What search covers
Search runs across your saved titles, the brief summaries, and the saved content itself. Matching words are highlighted in the results so you can see why something matched.
Results can be sorted by relevance, newest, or oldest, and they load 20 at a time. If nothing matches, Skiml suggests trying a different word, fewer words, or removing special operators.
Narrowing without searching
Search is not the only way to find things. The dashboard sidebar splits your library by source (Articles, PDFs, Videos, Tweets, Podcasts, Emails) and by triage bucket (Untriaged, To act on, Reference, Archived). You can also filter by any tag you have created.
Exporting a brief
Open a brief and use one of these:
- Copy as Markdown: copies the brief to your clipboard as clean Markdown.
- Download .md: saves the brief as a Markdown file. This is a Pro feature.
The saved content itself has its own pair of actions, so you can copy the extracted article as Markdown or download it as a .md file. The download is Pro; the copy is not.
If you are on Free and click a Pro export, Skiml tells you it is a Pro feature and points you at Settings, then Profile, to upgrade.
Export history
Every copy and every download is logged under Settings, then Exports. The list shows which brief left, which destination it went to, and when.
This exists so you always know what has left Skiml. Delete all clears the whole history, and that cannot be undone.
Trash
Deleting a save moves it and its brief to Trash rather than destroying them. Items stay there for 30 days and are then purged. You can restore anything within that window, or delete it forever yourself from the Trash view.
